###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

Homicide detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division are in the early stages of a death investigation at a residence in the 4200 block of Northeast Campaign Street.

Officers first responded to the residence at 5:38 a.m. on a welfare check after an out of state caller reported a friend sent him an email. The friend was concerned the man was considering suicide. Officers arrived and attempted contact via loud hail but received no response and did not have any information about people inside the home. Officers left the area without making contact.

At 7:25 a.m., a call came in to 9-1-1 from the residence. A male caller said he was injured and that there was a gun in the home. Responding officers realized this was the same residence they had been to earlier in the morning so they kept the caller on the phone and had him come outside to police. The 56-year-old man came outside and was taken into custody. He has been transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers checked inside the residence and found a 52-year-old female deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers have recovered a gun and are not looking for any other suspects or people in the neighborhood.

Northeast 42nd Avenue from Prescott to Skidmore is blocked off as police continue the investigation.

Updates will be released when they become available.
