April 17, 2013 11:30Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team investigators arrested 19-year-old Johnte Jovan Jones of Southeast Portland in connection with last night's shooting at 162nd and East Burnside Street.
Jones was identified during the investigation and officers arrested him after a short traffic pursuit, in which a gun was thrown from the vehicle. Police recovered the handgun and arrested Jones, who was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
Jones was charged with Attempted Aggravated Murder and two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
He will be arraigned on Thursday on the charges.
The Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force are continuing to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the City of Portland. Anyone with information about gang and/or illegal gun crimes in the City of Portland is encouraged to provide information to the Portland Police Bureau.

This evening, Tuesday April 16, 2013, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct and the Transit Division responded to the report of a shooting at 162nd and East Burnside Street.
Officers arrived in the area and contacted two young men who told police that they were walking on the MAX platform when an unknown male walked up behind them and fired several shots towards them. The victims told police that they ran away and that the suspect was last seen running eastbound on Burnside Street.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the Gang Enforcement Team was called to respond and begin further investigation.
No suspect information exists at this time.
