The Portland Police Bureau, the Oregon State Police, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, and the Gresham Police Department will be conducting a joint traffic safety mission in East Portland and Gresham on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

The mission will focus on distracted driving, seat belt violations, and moving violations.

Officers, Troopers, and Deputies will be working from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. from 122nd Avenue east to 201st Avenue, from Halsey Street to Foster Road.

The goal of the mission is to promote traffic safety awareness through high-visibility enforcement, education, and public outreach.

The City of Portland has already had 12 traffic fatalities in 2013. Area public safety agencies wish to remind drivers to avoid distractions such as texting or using mobile phones while driving, to obey traffic signals and stop signs, to remember to buckle up, and to watch their speed, particularly in areas with high volumes of pedestrian traffic.

On Wednesday, interested media can contact Lieutenant Chris Davis with the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division at (503) 793-8233, or meet with him at 11:00 a.m. at Southeast 162nd Avenue and Stark Street.
