On Thursday July 4, 2013, at 9:44 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 6500 block of Northeast Broadway on the report of a fireworks call where four people were injured.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located four people that were injured by some kind of an exploding fireworks rocket.

38-year-old Michael Molesworth of Southeast Portland and a 16-year-old Milwaukie boy were both transported to Portland hospitals for treatment to injuries. Molesworth was struck in the face and the 16-year-old boy was hit multiple times in the back.

39-year-old Gina Thornlow of Northeast Portland and 18-year-old Cheyann Yates of Milwaukie were also injured but were treated at the scene by Portland Fire & Rescue paramedics.

Officers learned that 32-year-old Zachary Kirk Mosbrucker of Southwest Portland was lighting off illegal fireworks when one exploded over the heads of the victims, rather than up in the air as designed. Mosbrucker and the victims are not associated.

Mosbrucker was arrested and charged with four counts of Reckless Endangerment. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
