The garbage truck driver, 39-year-old Jason Christopher Amundson, has been issued a citation for Careless Driving to a Vulnerable Road User by the Portland Police Bureau.

Investigation into a Friday morning traffic crash involving a garbage truck and a bicyclist is continuing this week.

The bicyclist, 22-year-old Matthew Charles Casperson of Southeast Portland, remains in a Portland hospital in critical condition.

Investigators learned that the garbage truck, driven by 39-year-old Jason Christopher Amundson of Southeast Portland, was turning left onto southbound McLoughlin Boulevard from Southbound 17th Avenue. Casperson rode his bike southbound on 17th on the east side of the street and was crossing McLoughlin when the collision occurred.

Amundson cooperated with the investigation and was not impaired at the time of the crash.

No citations have been issued and the case remains under investigation.

This morning, Friday July 12, 2013, at 11:01 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southeast 17th Avenue and McLoughlin Boulevard on the report of a collision involving a bicyclist and a garbage truck.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located both parties. The bicyclist has been transported to a Portland hospital with traumatic injuries. The rider's condition is not known at this time.

Traffic officers are responding to begin an investigation.

Traffic at the intersection may be affected so drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Updates will be provided when they become available.
