20-Year-Old Man Arrested for Vandalizing a TriMet Ticket Machine

July 12, 2013 16:05

Today, Friday July 12, 2013, at 12:52 p.m., officers assigned to the Transit Police Division arrested 20-year-old Devin Anthony McDonald after an investigation into the vandalism of TriMet ticket machines.

Officers conducted an undercover surveillance mission today at the Rose Quarter Transit Station when McDonald was seen tampering with a ticket machine and was later taken into custody.

Officers were investigating recent incidents where cigarette butts were being jammed into ticket machines to restrict change being given to customers. The person jamming the cigarette butts into the machine would then return later, remove the jam, and collect the money.

Today officers observed McDonald jamming a cigarette butt into a machine prior to his arrest. Officers will be reviewing TriMet surveillance video to see if McDonald is connected with additional incidents.

McDonald was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Criminal Mischief in the First Degree and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
