July 25, 2013 07:10Transit Police Division officers arrested 32-year-old Mitchell Scott Field in connection with yesterday's disturbance and stabbing. Field was the man stabbed during an altercation with a 13-year-old boy.
Investigators spoke with multiple witnesses and reviewed surveillance video from the MAX train which helped officers determine that Field initiated a physical confrontation with the 13-year-old boy on the MAX train. The two did not know each other. Field punched and choked the 13-year-old and the 13-year-old retrieved a knife and stabbed Field in apparent self-defense to get away from him.
The 13-year-old boy was released to his mother and Field was arrested after treatment at Portland hospital.
Field was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Strangulation, Interfering with Public Transportation and Offensive Physical Contact.
This afternoon, Wednesday July 24, 2013, at 3:09 p.m., East Precinct and Transit Police Division officers responded to the Holgate Boulevard Transit Station, 9369 Southeast Holgate Boulevard, on the report of a stabbing.
As officers and medical personnel were responding to the scene, additional information was broadcast that the victim got on a northbound MAX train and got off at the Powell Boulevard stop.
Officers and medical personnel located the victim and he was transported to a Portland hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Officers contacted the suspect near the Holgate Transit Station and took him into custody without incident.
Preliminary information indicates that the two males were involved in a physical altercation with each other prior to the stabbing.
