This morning, Thursday July 25, 2013, at 6:00 a.m. the Portland Police Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a search warrant at a residence in the 6400 block of Southeast 99th Avenue.

SERT was serving the warrant on behalf of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU), who was conducting an investigation into a suspect at the residence.

The suspect in the residence did not come out to police after numerous attempts by Crisis Negotiators to contact him, so SERT deployed tear gas into the residence. SERT officers then made entry into the garage where officers found the suspect deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives, Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division and the Medical Examiner are responding to conduct a death investigation.

Information requests regarding the original investigation are being referred to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Portland Police Bureau Lt. Mike Marshman is at the scene and will brief media at Southeast 99th Avenue and Duke Street.
