UPDATE - ARREST: SERT Responding to Barricaded Subject in Woodlawn Neighborhood Residence

The man arrested last night has been identified as 39-year-old Nicolas Torres. Torres was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree and Robbery in the Third Degree in connection with a robbery earlier in the evening.

Cullin's Corner market, located at 4938 North Albina Avenue, was robbed at 8:07 p.m., and Torres fled the scene on foot. During the robbery, Torres implied that he had a handgun as he demanded money.

Robbery detectives are investigating other similar armed robberies in the Portland area to determined whether or not Torres is responsible for additional cases.

The suspect has surrendered to SERT officers and was taken into custody without incident.

Robbery detectives are continuing their investigation and no additional details are expected until after 9:00 a.m. on Friday.

The Portland Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) is responding to assist North Precinct officers and Robbery detectives with a barricaded robbery suspect in a residence in the 1100 block of Northeast Stafford Street.

Officers have been attempting contact with the suspect by loudspeaker. No shots have been fired and there is low risk to the surrounding neighborhood. Several streets in the surrounding area are closed to traffic for the duration of this incident.

Any responding media can stage on Northeast 11th Avenue, South of Buffalo Street.

PIO is not responding but is available via telephone.
