Crime Stoppers Featured Case #13-23 Hit and Run to Bicyclist

August 29, 2013 09:16

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help in identifying a hit and run suspect who severely injured a bicyclist in Southwest Portland.

On Friday August 16, 2013, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest Barbur Boulevard, just North of the Capitol Highway ramp on the report of a bicyclist that had been hit by a vehicle which left the scene.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and contacted the victim, 20-year-old Henry Schmidt, who was suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries. Schmidt did not know what happened and was unable to provide officers with any vehicle information.

Officers located and recovered evidence at the scene from an unknown year, make or model Subaru. Additional evidence was collected a few days later that, upon further investigation, appears to belong to a black 2011 to 2012 Subaru Legacy 25i sedan, which investigators believe was involved in the hit and run.

Based on the investigation, officers believe that the suspect vehicle will have damage to the right-front headlight assembly, bumper, and missing the passenger-side mirror. The vehicle may also have windshield damage on the passenger side.

At this point in the investigation, there is no video of the crash nor have any eyewitnesses come forward with information.

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case, or any unsolved felony, and you can remain anonymous.
