UPDATE #3: Traffic Division Investigating Hit and Run Crash Involving a Bicyclist

On Wednesday September 11, 2013, Traffic Division investigators issued a citation to the tow truck driver responsible for hitting a 16-year-old male in August 2013.

The driver, 64-year-old Richard Tombleson, was cited for Careless Driving Causing Serious Injury to a Vulnerable Road User. Tombleson was driving for Speed's Towing at the time of the crash.

The citation was issued after a complete investigation and consultation with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office as well as the victim and his family.

The bicyclist ,a 16-year-old male, remains in serious condition at a Portland hospital. His name is not being released and his family requests privacy at this time.

Investigators learned that the bicyclist was southbound on 7th Avenue, in the bike lane, when a southbound tow truck turned right onto Taylor Street and in the process of turning struck the bicyclist and kept driving.

Although the driver and tow truck have been located, no arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.

Traffic officers have located the tow truck and driver involved in this morning's hit and run at Southeast 7th Avenue and Taylor Street.

No arrests have been made and the investigation into the circumstance of the crash is continuing.

This morning, Wednesday August 28, 2013, at 10:50 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of an injury crash at Southeast 7th Avenue and Taylor Street.

Officers arrived and located a teen-aged male bicyclist suffering from traumatic but not life-threatening injuries. Officers learned that the bicyclist was hit by a tow truck that fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Traffic investigators are talking to witnesses to gain better information on the tow truck, which is described as a flat bed that was last seen westbound on Taylor Street.
