###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

The Transit Police Division is continuing to investigate the circumstance of this morning's incident where a MAX train struck a woman at Northeast 7th Avenue and Holladay Street.

The 62-year-old woman hit by the train was transported to a Portland hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators believe the woman was walking eastbound on the North sidewalk and stepped into a crosswalk directly into the path of a westbound MAX train that was pulling into the station. Investigators have reviewed surveillance video and it appears that the woman did not hear the train coming, possibly due to heavy construction going on at a site North of the platform.

Investigators have determined that the MAX operator was not impaired at the time of the crash.

MAX service has been restored and the investigation is continuing.

The woman's name will not be released until Friday after family notifications have been made by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.
