September 14, 2013 23:18

On Saturday September 14, 2013, at 1:51 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 4900 block of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard on the report of a fight with a weapon.

Officers arrived in the area and learned that two males were involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of Sewickley's Addition, located at 4901 Southeast Hawthorne Street. Bar security intervened and one of the men displayed a handgun and menaced a crowd of people before the security officer knocked the gun out of the man's hand.

Both men fled the scene but were quickly located by arriving officers. The man who displayed the gun, 25-year-old Isaiah Kent, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Menacing.

As officers were finishing up this investigation, they heard a gunshot at Southeast 49th Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard and found a shooting victim, 25-year-old Jeremy Draper, lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Officers discovered that Draper had been shot in the left arm and also was suffering some facial injuries from a fight.

Draper was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers learned that Draper had been involved in an argument and fight with another man who pulled out a handgun and shot Draper one time. The shooting suspect then fled the area and was not located after an extensive neighborhood search by police.

The suspect is described as a stocky white male adult with black hair and a beard.

These two incidents do not appear to be related.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Assault detectives at (503) 823-0400.
