Suspect Arrested After Early Morning Traffic Pursuit in Northeast Portland

This morning, Thursday September 26, 2013, at 5:18 a.m., North Precinct officers attempted to stop a 1991 Toyota Camry for a traffic infraction in the area of Northeast 17th Avenue and Fremont Street.

The driver did not stop for police and attempted to elude officers, making multiple turns throughout the neighborhood.

The vehicle blew a tire and the car traveled onto a sidewalk and caught fire. The driver and passenger were able to get out of the vehicle and ran from the scene. Both were eventually located in the neighborhood and taken into custody.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Michael Fleming, and he was arrested on a charge of Attempting to Elude. The passenger, a 42-year-old male, was released without charges.

Fleming was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
