###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team has concluded a preliminary investigation into last night's single vehicle crash on I-205 southbound.

The person ejected was later identified as 19-year-old Volodymyr Kokhanevych. He was also determined to be the driver of the vehicle. Kokhanevych remains in a Portland hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Officers located one of the passengers, 16-year-old Roman Kokhanevych, at his residence. A third passenger has been identified but not yet located.

Investigators learned that the vehicle, a 1994 Mercedes 420, drove southbound on I-205 in the middle lane. The vehicle suddenly swerved to the right and drove off the right shoulder of the freeway. It crashed down the embankment and came to rest on the southbound I-205 on-ramp. The vehicle landed upright, half way into the roadway, and facing the wrong way (northbound) on the ramp.

Based on the investigation thus far, alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Officer Peter Kurronen at (503) 823-2208, peter.kurronen@portlandoregon.gov.

###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

This evening, Saturday November 9, 2013, at 7:37 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a rollover crash on the I-205 southbound on-ramp from Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. Callers to 9-1-1 reported that someone had been ejected from the vehicle and at least one other person ran from the scene.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the ejected occupant suffering from life-threatening injuries. The person has been transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Additional officers, including a Police K-9, are searching the area for an additional 1-2 occupants that ran from the vehicle.

Preliminary information indicates that the vehicle was traveling southbound on I-205 and went over the embankment and rolled several times, stopping on the on-ramp from Woodstock Boulevard.

The on-ramp to southbound I-205 from Woodstock is closed as the Traffic Division's Major Crash Team responds to investigate. Alternate on-ramps include Southeast Powell Boulevard or Johnson Creek Boulevard.

Additionally, southbound I-205 will be substantially impacted with multiple lane closures as part of the investigation.

Southbound through traffic should use I-5, 92nd or 82nd Avenues to bypass the closure.

No additional information is available at this time.
