Commercial Robbery Suspects Arrested Today in Downtown Portland

In the early afternoon hours of Wednesday December 18, 2013, Portland Police officers arrested two armed robbery suspects after detectives spotted them boarding a TriMet bus.

Robbery detectives in the Gateway area saw 25-year-old Nicholas Thomas and 28-year-old Andrea Rae Childers board a TriMet bus and followed it until members of the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) were able to assist and safely arrest the suspects. The arrests occurred in Downtown Portland, at Southwest 5th Avenue and Morrison Street, as the two suspects were on the bus. Detectives had previously identified Thomas as being involved in several Portland business robberies.

Thomas' arrest was in connection with robberies at the Venture Inn, located at 13900 Northeast Sandy Boulevard on October 23; Foxy's, located at 13505 Southeast Division Street on October 24; and, Devaki's Deli, located at 4446 Northeast 131st Avenue on December 11.

Thomas was charged with one count of Robbery in the First Degree and three counts of Robbery in the Second Degree. Childers was charged with one count of Robbery in the Second Degree.

Both were booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Thursday.
