At approximately 11:10 a.m. today, December 28 2013, Central Precinct police officers responded to a call involving a naked subject, possibly armed with a knife, acting as if he intended to jump off a parking structure at S.W. 15th Avenue and S.W. Yamhill Street. Officer arrived on scene and made contact with the subject.

The subject was naked and appeared to be experiencing a behavioral health crisis. He was sitting on the ledge of the structure, cutting himself with a knife and threatening to jump off.

A PPB Enhanced Crisis Intervention Team (ECIT) officer began negotiating and the subject informed officers that he was hungry. Officers were able to obtain a sandwich from a nearby business and use it to move the subject away from the ledge of the parking structure.

Once away from the ledge, officers were able to approach the subject and take him into custody without incident. The subject is currently being evaluated medically at an area hospital. Criminal charges may be forthcoming related to vandalism to vehicles in the parking structure and other crimes. The investigative portion of this incident is ongoing.

The PPB officer involved would like to thank the Hotel Deluxe for providing the food which helped them resolve this situation without anyone being injured.

A sergeant involved in this incident is available to be interviewed until 3:00 p.m. today.
