Update:Portland Police respond to possible suicide on Vista Bridge

Upon arriving on this call, officers were informed by witnesses that the subject had shot himself and fallen down an embankment at the south end of the Vista Bridge. Officers were able to locate the subject partway down the embankment and requested the Portland Fire and Rescue's Rope Rescue Team for assistance. Due to the need to quickly deliver medical attention to the subject, officers established a contact team and were able to take custody of the subject.

Portland Fire and Rescue personnel confirmed that the subject was deceased. The identity of the subject is not being released at this time as the family has not been notified.

This afternoon, January 2, 2014, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Central Precinct police officers responded to the report of a male subject shooting himself and falling from the Vista Bridge. Officers are on-scene and attempting to render assistance to the person. The incident is ongoing and information is limited at this time.
