Bomb Techs assigned to MEDU have safely removed the suspicious device and have transported it to a safe location for further examination and destruction.

This morning, Monday January 6, 2014, at 10:38 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 7600 block of North Hereford Avenue on the report of a suspicious device sitting on the steps of the Hereford House Food Pantry.

Officers responded and briefly examined the suspicious device and based on their observations called for the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU) to respond to the scene.

Officers at the scene will evacuate area residences if necessary but at present have asked some area residents close to the device to shelter-in-place.

Updates will be provided as they become available.
