###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

The investigation into last night's crash on Southeast 82nd Avenue is continuing today. The pedestrian, a 61-year-old male, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. His name will be released later today after confirmation that his family has been notified.

Investigators learned that the victim was dressed in dark clothing and stepped off of the West sidewalk into the southbound right lane of 82nd Avenue, not in a crosswalk.

The victim was then struck by a southbound Mazda Protege, driven by 53-year-old Brian Keith Monsrud. The victim was thrown up and over the vehicle and landed in the street where he was struck a second time by a 2005 Volkswagen Passat Wagon, driven by a 64-year-old male.

Both drivers remained at the scene and were cooperative with the investigation, which resulted in Monsrud being arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants and Reckless Driving. The second driver was not cited.

Monsrud was given citations for DUII and Reckless Driving. Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.

Anyone with additional information regarding this case can contact Officer Chris Johnson at (503) 823-2213 or chris.johnson@portlandoregon.gov.
