The Portland Police Bureau has partnered with GovDeals.com to sell unclaimed property left at the Portland Police Bureau's Property and Evidence Division.
The property being sold through GovDeals.com, a Liquidity Services, Inc. online marketplace, are items recovered by police officers and turned into the Portland Police Bureau's property room.
Efforts are made to return the property to the rightful owners but many items cannot be traced to an individual or a business. Other items are left unclaimed and are no longer retained.
GovDeals.com is an online auction website specifically designed to enable governmental entities and their agencies the ability to sell surplus such as vehicles, property, and equipment online.
To see current items for sale, please visit http://www.govdeals.com
and search for "Portland Police." The proceeds from all sales are deposited in the City of Portland's General Fund.
The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members to keep an inventory of valuables and store the inventory in a fire-safe container or other safe location. Information such as serial numbers, description, make and model, and fair market value are important information to supply to the police to increase the chance of recovery. This information can also be used to submit in claims to insurance companies. If valuables do not have a serial number or identifier, engrave and etch a driver's license number on the items and take pictures of jewelry and artwork. This information can assist police in returning recovered items to their rightful owners.
Media interested in visiting the Property and Evidence Division should contact Sgt. Pete Simpson.
