On February 4, 2014, a Multnomah County Grand Jury issued a 58-count indictment against 33-year-old Tiffany Denise Smith in connection with multiple incidents of robbery, burglary, theft, and identity theft, where she was stealing purses and personal information belonging to multiple victims.

Smith was initially arrested on January 14, 2014, by East Precinct officers and Robbery detectives in connection with two incidents where she stole purses from older women.

This investigation began on Tuesday January 7, 2014, at 2:39 p.m., when East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Southeast 148th Place on the report of a strong-arm robbery and learned that the suspect grabbed an 89-year-old woman's purse and threw her to the ground.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned of a December 2013 incident where a suspect knocked on the door of a Southeast Portland home in the 4800 block of Southeast Henderson Street, pushed passed the 90-year-old woman who answered the door, stole her purse off of the dining room table, then ran back out the front door. The victim in this case did not call 9-1-1 and waited until the next day to call police.

After Smith's arrest, detectives identified numerous additional victims and presented the cases to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office.

Smith remains in custody at the Multnomah County Jail awaiting trial.
