UPDATE - Shooting Investigation Underway in Southeast Portland's Lents Neighborhood - Suspect in Custody (Photo)

53-year-old Thomas Richard Robertson was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree.

Robertson was involved in an altercation with an acquaintance, 27-year-old Joseph Townsend, which resulted in a fight. During the fight, Robertson retrieved a handgun and shot Townsend in one of his legs, then fled the area back to his residence at Southeast 89th Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard.

Robertson's handgun was recovered and seized as evidence.

Robertson will be arraigned on Monday March 10, 2014.



This morning, Friday March 7, 2014, at 11:15 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a disturbance at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Woodstock Boulevard.

As officers were en route to the scene they learned that a male adult had been shot and the suspect ran away to a nearby home.

Multiple officers arrived in the area and located the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident. The suspect is also a male adult.

The victim has been transported to a Portland hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

There is no ongoing risk to the public and the shooting is not gang-related.

Assault Detectives and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division are responding to conduct an investigation.

Southeast Woodstock Boulevard is closed from 83rd to 85th Avenues.
