Fugitive Arrested at Hawthorne Fred Meyer After Running from Police (Photo)

March 19, 2014 21:05

This afternoon, Wednesday March 19, 2014, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Central Precinct officers attempted to make contact with 25-year-old Brandon Duane Carter at Southeast Hawthorne and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevards. Officers knew Carter to have an outstanding parole violation warrant and had unconfirmed information that he may be armed with a handgun.

Carter ran away from officers and ran into the Hawthorne Fred Meyer store and out of sight of officers.

Multiple officers, including several K-9 Units, responded to the area and worked with Fred Meyer Loss Prevention to secure the store and do some limited evacuations to allow officers to search for Carter.

Carter attempted to flee out a door leading to the upper parking lot but after seeing numerous officers, he ran back into the store where he was captured by other officers awaiting his return. Carter was taken into custody without incident and no firearm was located.

Carter was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a parole violation warrant.
