Police Bureau Offers Tips to Community Members on Reporting Tax Return Identity Theft

The Portland Police Bureau is aware of incidents where people have filed their tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) only to find out that someone has used their identity to file a false return.

If you are a victim of this type of crime, you can file a report with the Portland Police Bureau by calling the non-emergency number, (503) 823-3333. Although the Police Bureau cannot investigate these crimes since they are a federal crime, investigators can document the information which can assist federal investigators if a suspect is identified.
