###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###
This afternoon, Thursday April 3, 2014, at 3:43 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest 18th Avenue and Salmon Street on the report of a male who appeared to be high on drugs walking in and out of traffic and banging on cars.
Officers arrived and contacted the man, estimated to be in his late-20s or early-30s, and he claimed to have a gun and motioned to his waistband. The man refused to comply with officers commands so, concerned the man was armed with a handgun based on his words and actions, an officer fired a less lethal shotgun at the man. The man did not immediately react then he laid down on the ground and was taken into custody.
Medical personnel responded to the scene and have transported the man to a hospital for a mental health evaluation and for a possible drug overdose.
Officers searched the man but no gun was located.
Lincoln High School was placed in lockdown briefly as a precaution.
