UPDATE - Robbery Suspect Arrested in Centennial Neighborhood (Photo)

23-year-old Derek Damion Leigh was booked into the Multnomah County Jail by Robbery detectives on two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree. He will be arraigned on Tuesday.

This afternoon, Monday April 28, 2014, at 3:20 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the Fred Meyer store, located at 14700 Southeast Division Street, on the report of an armed robbery with suspect information.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted employees who told police that the suspect was stopped by Loss Prevention Officers on a suspicion of shoplifting. Employees told police that the suspect then pointed a handgun at them and ran out of the store. Employees told police that the suspect then returned to the store and went to the pharmacy to retrieve a prescription then ran out of the store again.

Officers searching the neighborhood located the suspect, a 23-year-old male, at Southeast 146th Avenue and Mill Street and took him into custody. Officers searching the neighborhood located a replica firearm suspected of being used in the robbery.

Detectives are interviewing the suspect who will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail later this evening.
