A public tribute honoring the service of the Portland Police Bureau's Canine Mick has been scheduled for Monday May 12, 2014, at 10:30 a.m.
Hondo Dog Park, next to Hillsboro Stadium, will be closed on Monday morning for the exclusive use of police K-9 teams attending the tribute. For safety's sake, no animals (other than service animals) will be allowed into the stadium.
Attached to this release is a flyer with specific details about the tribute, including where members of the public should park and where police K-9 teams should enter the stadium complex.
Those expected to speak include Mayor and Police Commissioner Charlie Hales, Chief Mike Reese, Governor John Kitzhaber's Policy Advisor on Public Safety Heidi Moawad, and Officer Jeff Dorn.
Mick was killed on April 16, 2014, and his Canine Handler, Officer Jeff Dorn, was injured in a shootout in Southwest Portland.
Thanks to a partnership with the Hillsboro Police Department, the tribute celebration will be held at Hillsboro Stadium, located at 4450 NW 229th Avenue in Hillsboro (along Highway 26).
Community members are invited and are encouraged to ride MAX (Blue Line / NW 229th & Evergreen Parkway stop).
Police K-9 teams that are interested and planning on attending should arrive by 8:30 a.m. and should contact K-9 Unit Officer Shawn Gore by email: email@example.com.
Several members of the community have asked if there is a donation fund for the K-9 Unit. The Bureau has learned that donations are tax-deductible and can be sent directly to the Portland Police Bureau K-9 Unit:
