The individual wounded in this shooting suffered non-life-threatening wounds and is expected to recover. He was shot during the incident but was able to arrange his own transportation to an area hospital. The investigation has revealed the incident occurred at S.W. 2nd avenue and S.W. Ash Street. Officers have recovered evidence consistent with a shooting and are continuing to investigate.
Earlier this morning, May 18, 2014, at 2:22 a.m., officers working in the area S.W. 3rd avenue and S.W. Ankeny street heard gunfire. Officers began checking the area and requested assistance. During the course of the investigation officers learned that at least one individual had been shot.
Officers have identified a crime scene and Gang Enforcement Officers are responding to assist with the investigation, which may be gang related. It is early in the investigation and the extent of the injuries from the victim are not known at this time.
The investigation is ongoing and a large number of potential witnesses have been identified and will be interviewed. There are no suspect descriptions at this time.
