Stolen vehicle involved in pursuit hits a police car causing minor damage

This morning, May 18, 2014, at 6:06 a.m, a North Precinct police officer located a vehicle which had been reported stolen at around 4:50 a.m. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle which fled from him. A pursuit ensued which ended in the 1300 block of S.W. Broadway Drive. The driver of the vehicle struck a police car during the pursuit. The contact was a relatively low speed (the suspect vehicle was in reverse at the time) but damaged the bumper of the police car.

The driver fled the vehicle and was taken into custody after a brief K9 search. The passenger of the vehicle was taken into custody at the scene. The driver, Derek Wayne Coulson, a 27-year-old male, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony and misdemeanor elude and hit and run. Coulson was associated with an earlier attempt to elude from an incident several days prior were he had eluded police. The passenger, Kayla Snow, a 31-year-old female, was charged with interfering with a peace officer and unlawful entry to a motor vehicle. Both subjects were lodged at the Multnomah County Jail.
