The pedestrian struck by a vehicle last night has been identified as 57-year-old Nancy Dawsey, a resident of North Portland. She remains in critical but stable condition at a Portland hospital.

Investigators learned that Dawsey left her residential care facility shortly before the crash and was seen walking by witnesses on the South sidewalk of Lombard Street, where she stepped off the curb and into the path of traffic where she was struck by a vehicle.

The vehicle that struck Dawsey, a 2000 Volvo wagon, was driven by 23-year-old Joshua Grayson. Grayson remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He was not impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The case remains under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time.

This evening, Wednesday May 21, 2014, at 10:07 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 5200 block of North Lombard Street on the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and located the older adult female pedestrian suffering from traumatic injuries. She has been transported to a Portland hospital with possibly life-threatening injuries.

The driver and vehicle that struck the pedestrian have remained at the scene and are cooperating with investigators.

North Lombard Street is closed East of Portsmouth Avenue for several blocks and will remain closed until the crash investigation is complete.

No additional information will be available until after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.
