On May 18, 2014, at 12:29 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a hit and run crash that occurred on I-84 eastbound near Northeast 53rd Avenue.

The victim vehicle was rear ended at high speed causing extensive damage and injuring both driver and passenger.

The front seat passenger, 67-year-old Judy Bolton, suffered significant traumatic injuries and was transported to a Portland hospital.

The suspect vehicle continued eastbound on I-84, but was later located abandoned at Northeast Halsey Street and 102nd Avenue. The driver fled the area prior to police arrival so officers seized the vehicle for further investigation.

Traffic investigators were able to identify the driver and this morning the suspect was taken into custody.

23-year-old Hanh Huu Nguyen was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Hit and Run (two counts), Assault in the Third Degree, Initiating a False Police Report, and Reckless Driving. Nguyen will be arraigned on Friday in Multnomah County Court.

This investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Erik Koppang at (503) 823-2216, erik.koppang@portlandoregon.gov
