UPDATE #3 - Location Secured- Homicide detectives respond to 3900 Block of NE 66th Avenue

SERT has secured the location and detectives are now taking over the investigation. The PPB would like to thank area residents for their patience during the execution of this search warrant. SERT uses specialized tactics to ensure that scenes such as this are secured in as safe a manner as possible. In this instance the location contained a number of security features which required exceptional efforts to safely overcome.

At this time detectives are continuing to investigate this case as a missing persons case. Additional updates will follow when more information becomes available.

Officers are continuing to attempt to gain entry to the location associated with this missing persons call. We want to assure the public that the noise associated with this incident is not gunfire. We do not believe the public is at risk at this time. Officers are continuing to serve the warrant and we anticipate a heavy police presence in the area.

We appreciate the public's patience as we attempt to resolve this situation in the safest possible manner.

The Portland Police Bureau's SERT Team has been activated and deployed tear gas on a house located in the 3900 block of NE 66th Avenue. Some area residents have been evacuated and the PPB is asking area residents to remain inside their homes.

This is pursuant to an earlier welfare check call. Detectives are now attempting to located a missing person associated with the residence. The PIO is onscene and will brief the media as soon as more information is available.

###ORIGINAL MESSAGE###

Homicide detectives have responded to the 3900 block of NE 66th Avenue. The call originated as a welfare check at around 11 a.m. this morning. Officers arrived and due to several suspicious circumstances have requested the assistance of detectives. The investigation is ongoing and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
