This morning, Wednesday July 30, 2014, at 1:09 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to North Interstate Avenue and Interstate Place on the report of a traffic crash.
Officers and medical personnel arrived and found a single vehicle crashed into a power pole. The driver, a 27-year-old male, was suffering from traumatic and life-threatening injuries. He has been transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.
The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team has responded to investigate the crash.
Preliminary information indicates that the driver was traveling Northbound on Interstate Avenue in a "Car2Go" Smart Car, lost control of the vehicle and hit the steel power pole near the driveway to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
Northbound Interstate Avenue will remain closed for the next 1-2 hours as investigators process the crash scene.
