46-year-old James Shane Legore was identified as the person struck and killed by a tractor trailer on I-5 Tuesday night.
Investigators learned that Legore was crossing I-5 northbound near the Morrison Bridge when he was struck by a northbound 2012 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by 63-year-old Dean Edward Beck.
Beck saw the Legore standing on in the middle of the freeway, near the center divider, when Legore suddenly ran back into northbound traffic. Beck hit the brakes and tried to change lanes but could not avoid striking Legore. Legore most likely died from the impact.
Beck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. He did not show any signs of impairment. Truck Inspectors checked his truck and trailer and found no violations.
The case remains under investigation and, upon completion, will be given to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.
