On Tuesday evening August 19, 2014, North Precinct Street Crimes Unit officers stopped a vehicle for traffic violations at Northeast 3rd Avenue and Weidler Street.
The driver, 22-year-old Manuelito Fernando Gonzales Jr., and passenger, 18-year-old Brandon Marquise Duckworth, were both known to officers as gang associates. During the course of the traffic stop, officers learned that Duckworth had an outstanding parole violation warrant so he was placed into custody.
Additional investigation by officers led to the discovery of two loaded handguns in the vehicle. Both handguns were seized and placed into evidence.
Officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's Gun Task Force responded to assist with the investigation.
Gonzales was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Duckworth was charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm (two counts), Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Both were booked into the Multnomah County Jail.
This week, the Portland Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team is being assisted by Street Crimes Units from all three precincts to help prevent continued gang violence from occurring after several recent shootings.
The Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force are continuing to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the City of Portland.
