On Wednesday August 20, 2014, at 11:49 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the Oregon Bank Building, located at 319 Southwest Washington Street, on the report of a naked female climbing the flagpole on top of the building.

Several officers responded to the building and gained access to the roof. The woman had stripped off her clothes, climbed the flagpole, removed the American flag, then climbed back down the flag pole.

Once back on the roof, the woman wrapped herself in the flag while holding a lighter and a fire extinguisher. The woman also began throwing construction glue from the rooftop, damaging vehicles on the street below.

Officers contacted her and were able to take her into custody. The woman appeared to be suffering from a mental health crisis and is suspected to have been under the influence of a stimulant.

The woman was taken to a Portland hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Arson Investigators from the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue do not know if the woman is connected with a fire at the Yeon Building, located at 522 Southwest 5th Avenue, that began shortly before the call to the Oregon Building.

The cause of the Yeon Building fire is under investigation.
