On Wednesday August 20, 2014, at 10:55 p.m., East Precinct Street Crimes Unit officers attempted to stop a vehicle for traffic infractions at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Sacramento Street.
The driver of the vehicle stopped momentarily but then sped away from officers in the vehicle. Officers pursued the vehicle until the driver crashed into a street sign and fence at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Morrison Street.
The driver exited the vehicle and ran away but was quickly apprehended in the neighborhood by officers pursuing him on foot. Officers located and seized a handgun inside the vehicle. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Timothy Ray Waters II.
Waters was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Attempt to Elude on Foot, Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Hit & Run), and Reckless Driving.
This week, the Portland Police Bureau's Gang Enforcement Team is being assisted by Street Crimes Units from all three precincts to help prevent continued gang violence from occurring after several recent shootings.
The Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force are continuing to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the City of Portland.
