09/24/2014 Vandal Damages Montavilla Neighborhood Businesses During Power Outage

On Wednesday September 24, 2014, at 2:44 a.m. , East Precinct officers responded to the Montavilla Sewing Center, located at 8326 Southeast Stark Street, to conduct a premise check after a report that someone broke out a window and tripped an alarm at the business.

09/23/2014 Sunnyside Neighborhood Alert: Stranger Enters Woman's Home, Touches Her then Flees

On Monday September 22, 2014, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Southeast 29th Avenue after a woman called 9-1-1 to report that she woke up in her bed to someone touching her body.

Several officers, including a Police K-9 responded to the area and began searching for the suspect.

The victim told police that she was sleeping and she awoke to an unknown male touching her body.*-..

09/23/2014 Lents Neighborhood Alert: Detectives Investigating Sexual Assault by a Stranger in Lents Park

On Monday September 22, 2014, at 11:52 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to Lents Park, located at Southeast 92nd Avenue and Holgate Boulevard, on the report of a sexual assault.

Several officers arrived in the area and located the 24-year-old female victim who told police she was walking in the neighborhood when she was struck on the head by the suspect then sexually assaulted in the southeast area of the park, near the basketball courts.

The victim described the suspect to officers as an African American male, 30 to 49 years old, 6'1" tall, 170 to 180 pounds, "sunken" hazel to gold-colored eyes, wearing a red FUBU hooded sweatshirt, old white ragged shoes without laces, and that he was armed with a small bat and had a gun in his waistband.

The victim told officers that she may have seen the suspect in Lents Park in the past but could not be sure.

Sex Crimes Unit detectives are in contact with the victim and are investigating the case.

09/23/2014 UPDATE - ARREST: Bank Robbery Investigation Underway in Southeast Portland's Mill Park Neighborhood (Photo)

On Saturday September 20, 2014, East Precinct officers spotted and arrested a bank robbery suspect near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Glisan Street.

49-year-old Harvey Ernest Mathnay was arrested without incident and turned over to Robbery detectives.

Mathnay was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a Federal Hold for Bank Robbery.



On Thursday September 18, 2014, at 3:01 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the Bank of America branch, located at 10201 Southeast Washington Street on the report of an armed bank robbery.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted bank employees who told police that the suspect was armed with a handgun as he demanded money.*-..

The Office of Neighborhood Involvement's Crime Prevention Program and the Portland Police Bureau will hold a Prescription Drug Turn-In event on Saturday September 27, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Southeast Precinct, located at 4735 East Burnside Street.

09/22/2014 UPDATE: Child Critically Injured in Fall in Southeast Portland's Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood

The 3-year-old boy who fell from a 2nd story window on Sunday afternoon did not survive his injuries despite the life-saving efforts of medical staff at a Portland hospital on Sunday evening.

The Child Abuse Team will review the case but, at this point, there is no indication that this incident is anything but a tragic accident.



On Sunday September 21, 2014, at 3:56 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to Southeast 113th Avenue and Division Street on the report that a small child fell from an upper window and was being transported by private car to a hospital for treatment to a head injury.

Officers and medical personnel arrived on 113th Avenue and met the family with the child.*-..

09/19/2014 Man Steals and Crashes Police Car - Facing Multiple Charges

On Friday September 19, 2014, at 4:53 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the area of Northeast 137th Avenue and Sacramento Street on the report of a man running up and down the street screaming about someone following him.

As officers were en route, the 9-1-1 caller reported that nobody was following the man and it appeared that the man was either high on something or having mental health issues.

Officers arrived in the area and got out to talk to the man to assess his condition but when he saw police he ran away.*-..

09/18/2014 UPDATE - ARREST: Reckless Driver Crashes into Vehicle Causing Serious Injuries - Major Crash Team Investigating (Photo)

Traffic Division officers today arrested 22-year-old Sergey Lastivka on several charges related to the Monday evening crash that left a woman in critical condition.

Lastivka was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, Attempt to Elude by Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), and Reckless Endangerment (five counts).

Lastivka will be arraigned on Friday.

54-year-old Hope Davis remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.



Traffic Division officers are continuing to investigate last night's crash that critically injured a woman during a head-on crash in Southeast Portland.
