Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and the Portland Police Bureau wants community members know that help is available for those struggling from a mental health crisis and/or suicidal thoughts.

In September 2013, the Portland Police Bureau released a video titled, "What if You Could Turn Back the Clock on Suicide?" The video is available for viewing at

09/09/2014 Tactical Operations Division Welcomes New Captain and Lieutenant (Photo)

Captain David Hendrie, a 20-year-veteran, has been appointed to lead the Portland Police Bureau's Tactical Operations Division (TOD). Captain Hendrie last served as the Captain of East Precinct.

As Captain of TOD, Captain Hendrie oversees the Gang Enforcement Team (GET), the Gun Task Force (GTF), the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit (MEDU), and the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT).

Captain Hendrie spent seven years as a member of the Gang Enforcement Team as both an officer and a Lieutenant, and is experienced in gang investigations as well as efforts to work with the community to reduce gang violence.

Joining Captain Hendrie at TOD is Lieutenant Michael Krantz, a 20-year-veteran of the Police Bureau.*-..

09/09/2014 Crime Alert: Vandalism Spree in Southeast Portland's Woodstock Neighborhood Damages Numerous Vehicles (Photo)

On Monday September 8, 2014, at 11:46 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 4700 block of Southeast Steele Street on the report that a car window had been broken out by an unknown suspect.

The only suspect information available is a white male in his 30s on a bicycle.

Officers in the area located several vehicles with their windows broken out and received additional calls on vehicle vandalism.

The area affected is from Southeast Powell Boulevard to Tolman Street and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to 60th Avenue.

Community members who have not filed a police report are encouraged to do so by visiting to file a report online.

If you suspicious activity consistent with these reports, please immediately call 9-1-1.

The Portland Police Bureau and Crime Prevention want to help you and catch the person(s) responsible for these crimes.

We offer the following suggestions and tips:

- Park your vehicle off the street and in a garage, if possible.

- Enhance your exterior lighting: leave porch lights on at night, add motion sensor lighting to the garage and add pathway or sidewalk solar lighting.*-..

The person arrested this morning on an outstanding warrant, 31-year-old Anthony Nathaniel Pickett, was been booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

At this point officers do not believe he was the person involved in the burglaries.

09/08/2014 Rose City United Charity Soccer Match on 9/11 to Benefit the Sunshine Division and Portland Toy n' Joy Makers (Photo)

Teams representing the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue will square off in a special "Rose City United" charitable match, hosted by the Portland Timbers, at Providence Park on Thursday, September 11, 2014.

The match, which kicks off at 7:00 p.m., is free and open to the public with a suggested donation at the gate.

As a way of honoring the dedication and hard work that both agencies provide the city, match attendees are strongly encouraged to bring a charitable donation of non-perishable food for the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division, a child's toy for Portland Fire & Rescue Toy n' Joy Makers or a $5 cash donation, which will be split between the two charities.

All donations will be accepted at Gate 2 at Providence Park starting a 6:00 p.m.

In addition to the match, visitors will be treated to an array of interactive booths and tours of Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue emergency vehicles on the KeyBank Plaza and inside the concourse at Providence Park prior to and during the game.

Under the direction of Timbers assistant coaches Sean McAuley and Cameron Knowles as guest coaches for the two sides, the match will feature many of the familiar features of a regular Timbers MLS match, including the national anthem, color guard and ball kids.*-..

The Portland Police Bureau's Robbery Detail, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help to identify a robbery suspect.

On August 9, 2014, at 5:12 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Jackson's Shell Station, located at 15 Northeast Broadway.

The victim told police that the suspect was armed with a handgun and demanded money.*-..

The pedestrian killed yesterday has been identified as 41-year-old Brenda Ann Badon.
