Portland Metropolitan Area: The Portland Police Bureau Youth Services Division, in partnership with other organizations that include the Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI), Multnomah County Department of Juvenile Justice, Portland Parks and Recreation and the Portland Police Bureau, is once again implementing Operation Safe Summer for 2015.

Operation Safe Summer, which started in 1996, is a collaborative effort between various disciplines (prevention, intervention, enforcement and corrections) to reduce the amount of violence and crime that occurs during the summer months.*-..

01/21/2015 Downtown Food Cart Robbed at Knifepoint on Tuesday Night

On Tuesday January 20, 2015, at 9:34 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the Brunch Box food cart, located at Southwest 5th Avenue and Stark Street, on the report of an armed robbery.

Officers arrived and spoke with the victim who told police that a man holding a knife robbed the food cart of cash, then left the area on foot, walking northbound on 5th Avenue.

Several officers checked the area but did not locate anyone matching the suspect's description.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s, approximately 6' tall, wearing a red winter coat and stocking cap, armed with a pocket knife or Leatherman-style knife.*-..

01/21/2015 Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested in Downtown Portland (Photo)

On Tuesday January 20, 2015, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers assigned to the Central Precinct Street Crimes Unit arrested 27-year-old Daniel Everett Johnson in connection with a bank robbery that occurred January 15, 2015.

Johnson was arrested without incident and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on a Parole Violation.*-..

01/21/2015 UPDATE: Search Warrant Served at Portsmouth Neighborhood Residence (Photo)

North Precinct officers booked the homeowner, 46-year-old Traci Michelle Phillips, into the Multnomah County Jail on a charge of Frequenting a Place Where Controlled Substances are Used.

The Neighborhood Response Team began this investigation after receiving numerous complaints from neighbors about persistent criminal and livability issues at the home, including drug activity and property crimes.

Investigators today seized a firearm, a homemade silencer, multiple boxes of ammunition, and drug paraphernalia during the search warrant.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be added at a later time.

North Precinct NRT was assisted today by the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), Gun Task Force (GTF) and the North Precinct Street Crimes Unit.

Community members concerned about drug activity in their neighborhood should report the information on line at or call the Drugs and Vice Division Drug Complaint Hotline at (503) 823-3784.



On Wednesday January 21, 2015, at 5:00 a.m., the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a search warrant at 7805 North Hereford Avenue as part of drug and stolen property investigation being conducted by the North Precinct Neighborhood Response Team (NRT).

At this point five people at the home have been detained by police as investigators continue to search for evidence in the investigation.

There is no risk the neighborhood and updates will be provided later on Wednesday.

SERT is utilized by the Bureau to serve search warrants that are deemed "high risk" due to information developed in an investigation.*-..

01/20/2015 Shooting Investigation Underway in North Portland's Humboldt Neighborhood - No Known Victims

On Tuesday January 20, 2015, at 9:22 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 600 block of North Webster Street on multiple reports of several gunshots heard in the area.

Multiple officers responded and began checking the neighborhood and located evidence of gunfire at the intersection of North Kerby Avenue and Webster Street, as well as in front of a residence approximately 1/2 a block to the West on Webster.

Officers have located four parked vehicles with bullet damage and are checking area homes.*-..

01/20/2015 2012 Murder Suspect Sentenced for Killing Father, Injuring Mother in Northeast Portland (Photo)

On January 20, 2015, 21-year-old Jacob James Simon was found "guilty except for insanity" for the March 2012 murder of his father, 61-year-old Peter Anton Simon.

Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Edward Jones sentenced Simon to lifetime supervision by the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB). Simon will be transferred from the Multnomah County Jail to the Oregon State Hospital.

01/20/2015 Hit and Run Driver Arrested After Injuring a 56-Year-Old Woman on Friday (Photo)

On Tuesday January 20, 2015, officers from the Portland Police Bureau's Traffic Division arrested 46-year-old Jon Bishop Jones in connection with Friday's hit and run in the Cully Neighborhood that seriously injured a 56-year-old woman.

Investigators received tips leading them to arrest Jones today at his residence in Corbett, Oregon.

Jones' vehicle, a black 2005 Ford Escape SUV, was towed from the property after investigators secured a search warrant.

Jones was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of Assault in the Second Degree and Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver (Hit and Run - Felony). He will be arraigned on Wednesday in Multnomah County Court.

This investigation started on Friday January 16, 2015, at 6:52 a.m., when North Precinct officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Northeast 57th Avenue and Prescott Street.*-..

On Tuesday January 20, 2015, at 2:50 p.m., the Portland Police Bureau G.R.E.A.T. Program will be honoring students at Hosford Middle School, located at 2303 Southeast 28th Place.

Officers Tracy Ballew, Jessica Brainard and Mike Paresa will be celebrating the graduation and honoring the students hard work and achievement in the G.R.E.A.T. Program.

01/20/2015 East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team Investigating Richmond Neighborhood Car Prowls (Photo)

Officers assigned to the East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) are investigating a series of car prowls in Southeast Portland's Richmond Neighborhood.

Many of these car prowls are clustered along Southeast Division Street, from 32nd to 45th Avenues and appear to be occurring between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Surveillance photos of two possible suspect vehicles are being released to aid in this investigation.

One of the vehicles is described as a 1998 - 2000 aqua blue Ford Ranger pick-up with damage to the passenger side bed rail.*-..
