10/10/2014 AYCO Eid Al-Adha Basketball Tournament Scheduled for Saturday (Photo)

The African Youth and Community Organization (AYCO) and the Muslim Youth of Portland are hosting a youth basketball tournament on Saturday October 11, 2014.

The tournament will be held at Madison High School, located at 2735 Northeast 82nd Avenue, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Officers from the Portland Police Bureau's Youth Services Division will be at the tournament to support the youth participants.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend this community event.

12 teams will compete in the tournament, with player's ages ranging from 15 to 21 years old.

AYCO's mission is to empower immigrants and refugees and prepare youth to become tomorrow's leaders.

At the individual level, AYCO provides development support for all youth of different ethnicity, background, culture and religion.*-..

The deceased driver pulled from the Columbia River on Wednesday has been identified as 47-year-old Nickolas Ralph Curtiss Jr.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

10/09/2014 UPDATE #2 - Drunk Driver Crashes Stolen Vehicle; Critically Injures Passenger (Photo)

45-year-old Jeannette Rene Fields, the passenger injured in this crash, died on October 8, 2014.

The driver, 34-year-old Joshua Eric Lindsay, remains in jail on multiple felony charges and the case remains under investigation.

On Sunday, October 5, 2014, at 4:59 p.m., 34-year-old Joshua Eric Lindsay abandoned his vehicle, and then broke into a home in the 10000 Block of NE Beech, where he stole the keys of a 2014 white Toyota Camry from the residence's owner.*-..

On Wednesday October 8, 2014, at 2:52 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 5500 block of North Wilbur Avenue on the report that a resident was confronted by an armed man inside his home.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted the victim who told police that he was in the basement of his home when he heard footsteps on the main floor of the house.*-..

10/08/2014 West Coast Car Crushing Investigation Yields New Indictments, Arrests (Photo)

Five people have been arrested recently in connection with an auto theft investigation centering on West Coast Car Crushing and A1 Light Truck and Van Parts, both located in North Portland.

During this investigation, the Portland Police Bureau and the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office have arrested and/or indicted nearly three dozen people in connection with this investigation.

Arrested persons include:

* 26-year-old Katrina Irene Morrison (aka Schneider) was arrested after an 8-count indictment, including two counts of Racketeering.

* 21-year-old Vanasha Lee Vidalez was arrested after a 58-count indictment, including two counts of Racketeering.

* 34-year-old Tyler Hagist was arrested in Vancouver after a 4-count indictment for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle, Theft in the First Degree, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, and Illegal Salvage.

* 53-year-old David Michael Houston was arrested in Vancouver after a 13-count indictment, including two counts of Racketeering.*-..

On October 7, 2014, at 7:50 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the Columbia Arboretum, located in the 10000 block of Northeast 6th Drive, on the report that a 15-year-old girl was grabbed on the arm by a stranger.

Officers arrived in the area and contacted the victim who told police that she was walking in the area when the suspect approached her from behind without speaking and grabbed her on the arms.*-..
