GirlStrength and WomenStrength, Violence Prevention Programs operated through the Family Services Division of the Portland Police Bureau, will hold their annual graduation ceremony on Wednesday April 30, 2014, to recognize volunteers who have completed the programs intensive new instructor training.

GirlStrength and WomenStrength instructors are all unpaid volunteers who complete 128 hours of education on a range of topics including violence prevention, self-defense tactics and personal safety options.

The graduates professional training prepares them to empower girls and women with life-saving skills and information.*-..

10/05/2013 Gas Line Ruptured After Single Vehicle Crash at SE 41st and Hawthorne - Neighborhood Traffic Affected

This afternoon, Saturday October 5, 2013, at 2:55 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the 1500 block of Southeast 41st Avenue on the report of a car that crashed through a fence, hit a house and ruptured the gas main.

Officers along with firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue responded and determined that it was a single vehicle crash with no injuries.

The vehicle came to rest on top of the gas main and natural gas is leaking into the air and surrounding neighborhood.

Southeast 41st Avenue is closed to all traffic from Hawthorne Boulevard to Clay Street.

Emergency crews from Portland General Electric (PGE) and Northwest Natural Gas are responding to address the gas leak.

Officers have evacuated some residents close to the scene.

The street closure likely will be in place for several hours as crews work to contain the problem.

A preliminary crash investigation indicates that the driver's foot slipped off the brake and onto the gas pedal.*-..

03/25/2015 Gang-Related Shooting Investigation Underway in Northeast Portland's King Neighborhood - No Injuries (Photo)

On Wednesday March 25, 2015, at 8:29 p.m., North Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team (GET) officers responded to the report of gunshots into a home in the 4000 block of Northeast Mallory Street.

As officers were responding to the call, they heard gunshots in the area of Northeast Grand Avenue and Alberta Street (related to injury shooting of 38-year-old man). Officers arrived in the area of Northeast Mallory Avenue and Shaver Street and located a home in the 4000 block of Mallory Avenue with a gunshot through a window.

The occupant of the home was not injured by the gunshots.

GET officers are familiar with the residence but have not yet determined if this shooting is related to the shooting that happened minutes later a few blocks away.

The Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team and Gun Task Force are continuing to actively investigate gang and gun crimes in the City of Portland.*-..
