05/01/2014 May Day Event and March This Afternoon in Downtown Portland

Today, May 1, 2014, there is scheduled to be a May Day celebration and march in Downtown Portland.

The celebration is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. at Shemanski Park in the South Park Blocks, located at Southwest 9th and Park Avenues.

The permitted march is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. and will wind through Downtown Portland along the following route:

Southbound Park Avenue to Columbia Street
Eastbound Columbia Street to 4th Avenue
Northbound 4th Avenue to Madison Street
Eastbound Madison Street to 2nd Avenue
Northbound 2nd Avenue to Burnside Street
Westbound Burnside Street to Broadway
Southbound Broadway to Taylor Street
Westbound Taylor Street to Park Avenue
Southbound Park Avenue and end march at Shemanski Park

The Police Bureau will have officers assisting with the march so there is minimal impact to Downtown commuters.*-..

05/01/2014 Missing Persons Unit Seeking Public's Help Locating a Missing North Portland Man (Photo)

The Portland Police Bureau's Missing Persons Unit is asking for the public's help in locating 43-year-old John Edwards Gade, who failed to return home to his group home from an appointment this morning, May 1, 2014.

Gade was provided a ride to the area of Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Division Street, and was seen at his appointment at about 10:25 a.m. Gade is believed to have wandered away from the location on foot, and may have last been seen in the area of Southeast 41st Avenue and Division Street at about 10:40 a.m. Police were notified of Gade's missing status at approximately 2:40 p.m. this afternoon.

Gade suffers from mental health issues which would likely interfere with his ability to return home safely on his own.

Gade is described as a white male, 43 years old, 5'7", 180 pounds, with shaggy brown hair, and brown eyes.*-..

05/05/2014 UPDATE: Pedestrian Hit by a Vehicle in North Portland Dies - Major Crash Team Investigating

The man killed on Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle has been identified as 43-year-old James Earl Hunter of North Portland.

The driver, 39-year-old Michelle Kidby, was cooperative and was not impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.*-..

05/06/2014 Police Bureau Offers Tips to Prevent Smartphone Theft

In 2013, Portland Police officers took 274 reports of cellular phones being stolen, most of them smartphones, like the iPhone and Android.

Many of these cases were the result of unsuspecting community members using their phones in public places where thieves would ask to borrow the phone then run away or would quickly run up and grab the phone then run away.

The Police Bureau would like to remind community members of a few simple things that can help smartphone users protect themselves:

05/05/2014 Stolen Property Investigation Leads to Three Arrests, Search Warrant at University Park Home (Photo)

On Friday May 2, 2014, officers assigned to North Precinct's Neighborhood Response Team (NRT) served a search warrant at 7040 North Olin Avenue after a six-month investigation into a group of people selling stolen property from the residence.

Three people were arrested at the home and several items of suspected stolen property was recovered, including appliances, paintings, bicycles, and bicycle parts.

47-year-old Joel Michael Orazio, 30-year-old Michael Joseph Orazio and 46-year-old Trevor Leon Largent were all arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Jail on outstanding warrants.

North Precinct NRT was assisted in the investigation by detectives assigned to the Burglary Detail and Evidence Control Specialists from the Property Evidence Division.

Neighbors partnering with police was a key piece of this investigation.*-..
