08/16/2013 Sex Offender Arrested Downtown After His Dog Bites a Police Officer

This morning, Friday August 16, 2013, Central Precinct officers were conducting routine walk and talks around Terry Schrunk Plaza in Downtown Portland to wake people sleeping who were low-impact camping and to enforce the Sidewalk ordinance. One officer stepped into the street to take a picture of a campsite for documentation purposes when a man's dog lunged at her and bit her on the left arm.*-..

08/16/2013 April 2013 Assault of Portland Timbers Fan Remains an Active Investigation

In April 2013, the Portland Police Bureau began investigating the attack and assault of a Portland Timbers fan who was on his way to Jeld Wen Field for the Timbers match against the San Jose Earthquakes. The Portland Police Bureau has received numerous tips from the public that have assisted in this investigation. Detectives are still seeking additional video or photographs taken at the time of the attack that might assist in identifying the suspects. This investigation began on Sunday April 14, 2013, at approximately 5:30 p.m., when Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to West Burnside Street and 6th Avenue on the report of a crowd of 70 to 100 people jumping on cars, throwing bottles and being rowdy. As officers were enroute, other officers reported that he crowd was mostly soccer fans heading to Jeld Wen Field for Sunday's match between the Portland Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes. 08/19/2013 Burglar Arrested Attempting to Sexually Assault a 6-Year-Old Girl in St. Johns

On Sunday August 18, 2013, at 12:59 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 6900 block of North Nashton Street on the report that a burglar broke into a home and was attempting to sexually assault a child. Officers arrived at the location to find the suspect being detained by one of the residents, 21-year-old Kyler Pulfrey. The suspect, 21-year-old Pedro Santiago Machi-Menchu of Vancouver (WA), was placed into handcuffs and taken out of the home. Pulfrey told police that he went to check on three children and found the suspect attempting to sexually assault a 6-year-old, whom does not live at the residence.*-..

08/19/2013 Public Alert for Telephone Scam - Scammers Claim to be Law Enforcement

The Portland Police Bureau would like to make the public aware of a telephone scam recently reported to police. On August 7, 2013, a man from Salem, Oregon to report that he received a call from a Portland Police phone number and that the caller was posing as a Portland Police officer. The complainant reported that the caller told him that an officer was filing a complaint against him and that he would be arrested in 45 minutes if he did not agree to pay a fine over the phone. The complainant knew this was a scam and hung up the phone and called police. In June 2013, the Oregon State Police reported a similar incident in Forest Grove, Oregon. Since November 2012, the Oregon State Police received a few complaints from community members regarding similar telephone calls from individuals claiming to be police demanding money in exchange for dropping criminal charges or clearing arrest warrants.*-..
