08/19/2013 Public Alert for Telephone Scam - Scammers Claim to be Law Enforcement

The Portland Police Bureau would like to make the public aware of a telephone scam recently reported to police. On August 7, 2013, a man from Salem, Oregon to report that he received a call from a Portland Police phone number and that the caller was posing as a Portland Police officer. The complainant reported that the caller told him that an officer was filing a complaint against him and that he would be arrested in 45 minutes if he did not agree to pay a fine over the phone. The complainant knew this was a scam and hung up the phone and called police. In June 2013, the Oregon State Police reported a similar incident in Forest Grove, Oregon. Since November 2012, the Oregon State Police received a few complaints from community members regarding similar telephone calls from individuals claiming to be police demanding money in exchange for dropping criminal charges or clearing arrest warrants.*-..

08/20/2013 Driver in 2012 Fatal Crash Issued Two Traffic Citations

On August 6, 2013, 42-year-old Kimberly Dennis was issued two traffic citations in connection with a November 2012 crash where she struck two pedestrians, killing one of them. The investigation began on Tuesday November 20, 2012, at 8:22 p.m., when East Precinct officers responded to the report of two pedestrians struck by a car in the 10800 block of Southeast Washington Street. Officers and medical personnel arrived and located two victims, 71-year-old Kseniya Aleksandrova and 70-year-old Pavel Krivolenkov, suffering from critical injuries. Aleksandrova later died as a result of her injuries. The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team (MCT) responded to conduct an investigation into the crash. The driver, Kimberly Dennis, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Traffic investigators determined that both people were crossing Southeast Washington Street, in a crosswalk, when they were struck by an eastbound vehicle, driven by Dennis.*-..
