08/29/2013 Crime Stoppers Featured Case #13-23 Hit and Run to Bicyclist

The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, is asking for the public's help in identifying a hit and run suspect who severely injured a bicyclist in Southwest Portland.

On Friday August 16, 2013, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest Barbur Boulevard, just North of the Capitol Highway ramp on the report of a bicyclist that had been hit by a vehicle which left the scene.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and contacted the victim, 20-year-old Henry Schmidt, who was suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries.*-..

08/29/2013 Detectives Arrest 46-Year-Old Woman who Stole a Ring from an Assisted-Living Facility Resident

Today, August 29, 2013, a detective from the Portland Police Bureau's Special Property Investigations Detail and an officer assigned to the Behavioral Health Unit arrested 46-year-old Theresa Reba Mozell White of North Portland, for her role in the theft of a wedding ring from a resident of a Northeast Portland assisted-living facility.

Portland Police were originally called to the assisted-living facility in July 2013 on a report that an unknown woman had entered the facility's dining hall, encountered a 92-year-old resident, and pulled a wedding ring off the victim's finger against her will.*-..

09/03/2013 Back to School Safety Enforcement Missions for First Two Weeks of School

The Portland Police Bureau and the City of Portland's Bureau of Transportation are partnering to keep Portland's students safe as they return to school on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

To ensure student safety and increase awareness of the start of the school year, the Portland Police Bureau will be conducting high visibility patrols around all Portland schools as part of a "Back to School" safety campaign.

To support a safe trip to school, the Transportation Bureau's Safe Routes to School program will provide pedestrian and bicycle safety instruction to thousands of students at schools across the city beginning September 9 and continuing through the school year.

The goals of this partnership are to provide a positive and safe environment for our children to learn and travel to and from school and to provide a safe environment in and around the schools for students, parents, school staff and their neighbors for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Beginning this week, many young people will be walking and riding their bicycles to school.*-..
