This morning, Tuesday September 3, 2013, at 4:01 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to the report of a fight outside City Hall, located at 1221 Southwest 4th Avenue.

09/03/2013 Back to School Safety Enforcement Missions for First Two Weeks of School

The Portland Police Bureau and the City of Portland's Bureau of Transportation are partnering to keep Portland's students safe as they return to school on Wednesday, September 4, 2013.

To ensure student safety and increase awareness of the start of the school year, the Portland Police Bureau will be conducting high visibility patrols around all Portland schools as part of a "Back to School" safety campaign.

To support a safe trip to school, the Transportation Bureau's Safe Routes to School program will provide pedestrian and bicycle safety instruction to thousands of students at schools across the city beginning September 9 and continuing through the school year.

The goals of this partnership are to provide a positive and safe environment for our children to learn and travel to and from school and to provide a safe environment in and around the schools for students, parents, school staff and their neighbors for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Beginning this week, many young people will be walking and riding their bicycles to school.*-..

09/06/2013 UPDATE: CORRECTION: Pedestrian Struck by Westbound MAX Train in Lloyd District - MAX Service Delayed

The woman killed yesterday has been identified as 62-year-old Yvonne Stevenson Osredkar of Ridgefield, Washington.



The woman killed this morning by a MAX train was walking eastbound, not westbound as earlier released.



The Transit Police Division is continuing to investigate the circumstance of this morning's incident where a MAX train struck a woman at Northeast 7th Avenue and Holladay Street.

The 62-year-old woman hit by the train was transported to a Portland hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators believe the woman was walking eastbound on the North sidewalk and stepped into a crosswalk directly into the path of a westbound MAX train that was pulling into the station.*-..

Norris Newman has been found safe in Downtown Portland and returned to his care facility.



Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau's Missing Persons Unit are asking for the public's help in locating 73-year-old Norris Newman, who went missing on foot from his care facility, located in the 12700 block of Southeast Holgate Street, during the evening on September 3, 2013.

Newman is not his own legal guardian, and suffers from various medical conditions, including mild dementia, which, if left untreated, could endanger his welfare.*-..
