08/05/2014 Public Alert: Stranger Sexually Assaults a Woman in North Portland's Overlook Neighborhood

On Monday August 4, 2014, at approximately 10:30 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to the report of a sexual assault that occurred in North Portland's Overlook Neighborhood.

Officers met with the 54-year-old female victim at her home and she told police that she was walking her dogs near the grounds of the Kaiser Permanente offices at North Interstate Avenue and Overlook Street, when a suspect approached her, talked with her briefly, then pulled her into the bushes where she was sexually assaulted.

The victim was able to walk home and call 9-1-1. She was treated and released at a Portland hospital.

Several officers, including a Canine Unit, searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, 5'5" tall, heavy set, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jeans.

The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members that stranger-to-stranger sexual assaults fortunately are a rare occurrence.*-..

08/05/2014 Portland Police to Provide Enhanced Presence at MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park

On Wednesday August 6, 2014, the Portland Police Bureau will be providing an enhanced presence in and around Providence Park for the 2014 Major League Soccer All-Star Game.

The game is a sellout and police are expecting a very festive and safe evening for all in attendance.

Traffic will not be allowed on Southwest 18th Avenue, between Salmon and Morrison Streets and persons attending the game are encouraged to use TriMet.

Officers from Central Precinct, the Traffic Division, Transit Police, and the Mounted Patrol Unit will all be in the area to keep everyone safe.

As with any major event, people seeing something suspicious are encouraged to report it immediately to Providence Park Security or the nearest police officer.*-..

08/07/2014 UPDATE: Traffic Alert: Major Crash Team Investigating a Pedestrian Fatality on I-5 Northbound on Marquam Bridge

46-year-old James Shane Legore was identified as the person struck and killed by a tractor trailer on I-5 Tuesday night.

Investigators learned that Legore was crossing I-5 northbound near the Morrison Bridge when he was struck by a northbound 2012 Freightliner tractor trailer, driven by 63-year-old Dean Edward Beck.

Beck saw the Legore standing on in the middle of the freeway, near the center divider, when Legore suddenly ran back into northbound traffic.*-..

08/07/2014 Crime Stoppers Featured Case #14-31 Kenilworth Park Fires

Portland Fire & Rescue and the Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Oregon, are asking for the public's help to identify who is lighting fires in the area of Kenilworth Park in Southeast Portland.

Between July 12 and August 3, 2014, firefighters and police have responded to 10 fires in the area of Kenilworth Park, located at Southeast 32nd Avenue and Holgate Street.

The most recent fire occurred on August 3, at approximately 3:00 a.m. and involved several male juveniles setting a mattress on fire near the northwest corner of the park, then running away through the park.*-..
