01/29/2014 Gang Enforcement Team Arrests 19-Year-Old Man for December Gang Shooting (Photo)

This morning, Wednesday January 29, 2014, Portland Police Bureau Gang Enforcement Team detectives arrested 19-year-old Deanthony Paul Simmons in connection with a gang shooting in December 2013.

Simmons was arrested at a residence in the 2600 block of North Willis Boulevard after members of the Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a search warrant in the early morning hours.

A second search warrant was served at a residence in the 17300 block of Northeast Halsey Street by the Gresham Police Department Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team.

Investigators recovered a handgun from the residence on North Willis Boulevard.

This investigation started on December 26, 2013, at 4:58 p.m., when officers responded to the report of shots fired at Northeast 6th Avenue and Simpson Street.

Officers located evidence of gunfire in the intersection and contacted several witnesses who provided limited suspect vehicle information to police as well as a description of a subject running in the neighborhood after the shots were fired.

Gang Enforcement Team investigators responded and began an investigation which ultimately led to the arrest of Simmons this morning.

Simmons was charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*-..

01/29/2014 UPDATE #3 - Shooting Investigation in Downtown Portland - Suspect in Custody

Robbery detectives are continuing to investigate last night's shooting in Downtown Portland.

The 32-year-old victim remains hospitalized after being shot in one of his legs.

The 40-year-old suspect also remains hospitalized after receiving a gunshot wound to his testicles, not leg as initially reported.

Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Robbery detectives are responding to conduct an investigation into this evening's shooting in Downtown Portland.

Preliminary information indicates that the male adult victim and the male adult suspect live in the same building, located on the southwest corner of Southwest 9th Avenue and Columbia Street.

Witnesses described a disturbance in the back parking lot of the building where the shooting occurred.*-..
