Portland Police are Prepared for May Day Rally

April 28, 2006 00:00

The Portland Police Bureau is prepared for a large and lively crowd for the annual May Day rally which begins in the South Park Blocks at Portland State University at 10:00 a.m., on May 1, 2006. The event organizers anticipate in excess of 5,000 participants to fill the streets of downtown Portland for a permitted march between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The permit does allow the participants to march in streets designated by the parade route. The parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., and motorist can expect delays during those hours. The Portland Police Bureau does not anticipate any problems associated with this event; however, the necessary resources will be available to manage any contingencies that might arise.
